Our Beginnings…

"Unitarian Universalist Congregation is Organized in Durham Region"

So read the press release issued to the local newspapers during the summer of 1997. Some of the other commentary included in that release was as follows:

Brooklin Community CentreOur first service was held on June 15, 1997. We continue to meet weekly at 10:30 each Sunday morning from September until June at the Brooklin Community Centre on Cassels Street east of the main street in Brooklin, Ontario.

From the beginning, ours has been an inclusive and accepting community for both children and adults from all religious backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles. Together, we have built a religious home that encourages an individual search for truth and meaning within an atmosphere of spiritual renewal. Our core values include freedom of religious expression and toleration of religious ideas. They embrace the worth and dignity of each human being along with the ethical application of religion. As individuals and as a church we are in the process of ‘becoming’. We invite you to join us on our quest.
