Rev. Cheryl Jack - What Teens Want You to Know

20/11/2011

Cheryl's sermon is based on interviews with a small sample of teens comprised of UUCD Youth...as well as others.  It's tough being a teen.  How do today's teens respond to their parents during this oft times puzzling life stage and what would they like them to know?

Rev. Cheryl Jack is minister emeritus of the UUCD. She is an active participant in Big Sisters of North Durham and continues to provide rites of passage to the people of the Region.

Julien LeBourdais - Feed the Need

13/11/2011

We welcome back Julien.  Today he will be explaining the role of “Feed the Need” in Durham, and the role/necessity of food banks in our society.

Julien now focuses his energy full time on issues of local poverty through his work as Executive Director of “Feed the Need in Durham”, an organization that supplies food to over 40 emergency food providers (food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and meal programs) in Durham Region.

Julien LeBourdais was an active member of UUCD, serving in many capacities.  Earlier in his career, he was a professional photographer and photojournalist. Since moving full-time into the not-for-profit sector 5 years ago, Julien has worked as a fundraiser for the United Way of York Region, Hesperus Village – a seniors’ residence, and Justice For Children & Youth, a legal aid clinic helping homeless youth.  Julien is a member of AIDWYC (Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted), AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals), and the board of The Heliconian Hall Foundation. He is also a part-time photography instructor at Sheridan College.

Mary Bone - Habitat for Humanity

6/11/2011

Habitat for Humanity is planning a very large build in Oshawa.  Mary Bone will be telling us about the group, the project, and how we can get involved.

Mary Bone is executive Director for Habitat for Humanity and has been with them since 2007. She is a charitable sector professional with 20 years of experience.  Charity work struck a personal cord when her then 4 year old son had his wish granted through the Starlight Children’s Foundation.  It was after this experience that she found her heart in the charitable sector, a turning point in her career.
